markrstirling “Song to the Siren” has haunted me for years. I first heard the song in the 1980s recorded by This Mortal Coil. At that time I had no idea who Larry Beckett or Tim Buckley were. I subsequently heard the Tim Buckley versions and my eyes were opened. Tim Buckley’s greatest recording and one of the greatest songs of all time. To have this spoken word recording with Larry Beckett, the original writer, is a privilege - one of the pleasures of a lifetime! I was excited to find out about the recording and it did not let me down. A beautiful and moving experience. Thank you to the Long Lost Band and Larry Beckett for making this happen - truly a recording for all time. Buy this while you can it’s very very special. 1.
Song to the Siren Long afloat on shipless oceans, I did all my best to smile till your singing eyes and fingers drew me loving to your isle, and you sang, Sail to me, sail to me, let me enfold you: here I am, here I am, waiting to hold you. Did I dream you dreamt about me? Were you hare when I was fox? Now my foolish boat is leaning broken, lovelorn, on your rocks, for you sing, Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow. Oh my heart, oh my heart, shies from the sorrow. I am puzzled as the oyster, I am troubled as the tide: should I stand amid the breakers? Should I lie with death my bride? Hear me sing, Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you: here I am, here I am, waiting to hold you. Lyric by Larry Beckett
2.
Synchronicity    In winter, electricity, lyrics from cyberspace, Wild Roses, sent to me for music, out of grace.   Synchronicity: what light, like divinity, is carried by invisible rivers uniting you and me.   In her diary, my first solo with that brass band; and oh, I read the name: Wild Rose, in her lost hand.   Synchronicity: what light, like divinity, is carried by invisible rivers uniting you and me. Lyric By Larry Beckett

about

Song To The Siren was written by Tim Buckley and Larry Beckett in 1967, and Tim first performed it on The Monkees show in 1968. He later included the song on his ground-breaking album ‘Starsailor’ in 1970.
The song has been covered many times since then by a catalogue of stars including Robert Plant, Bryan Ferry, Sinead O’Connor, Elizabeth Fraser, and George Michael, to name just a few.
Now in 2016, a new and very unique version has been made with Larry Beckett himself present on the recording, telling in spoken word, the moving story of how the song came to be composed.
Larry’s account is woven into a complete musical performance of Song To The Siren by Larry’s musical collaborators The Long Lost Band from Lancaster, UK.
